uk trip hop legend howie b teaming up with the jersey deep house don jus ed? you better believe it! according to howie b himself, who proudly declared on his facebook page -the theme is cinema. the mood is deep.- cinetrax vol. 1 is the first part of three 12-s which will be presented for the project. the slow grinding electro pop of -salty dance- is something that you could have imagined ryan gosling cruising the streets of dtla after midnight in drive, while -the breach- does have cinematic aspects about it, in a way, but sounds more like an early robert hood track on -8, we really liked this bleepy and cyclical excursion in minimalism. on the flip -the essence of new- fuels some exotic daydream fantasies with its chilled and atmospheric beats while -phat harp ban- is a darkly aquatic smack electro number, that brings to mind that epic underwater bank heist in scene in sexy beast.

back in the days at the west-saxon highlands there was a missile, which marked the starting point. when credit 00 saw the legendary rocket rise on tetris’ final screen, it was the first time he became aware of electronic music at all. since then it actually hasn’t changed that much. he keeps pushing that buttons that belong to the impressive pool of music machines towered up next to his bed. after moving to dresden in 2000 to study fine arts, his passion for synthesizers and drum machines got nurtured through visits of dresden’s club-canalisation. he quickly made himself a name as a dj, who is just doing his own thing and got popular for that reason. as a part of the idealfun-crew he started hosting parties always in the twilight zone between legal and illegal. this led to “robo dance”, dresden’s only and (also for some other reasons) best electro club night featuring guests like dmx krew, luke eargoogle or imatran voima. the track credit made with randy barracuda of imatran voima has probably been created some time after the show. apparently, randy was not in good shape anymore and so “lebensraum” unmistakably bears credit’s hallmarks. for his own music he’s inspired by cannibal movies, number theory and birds. still, his music is not easy to pigeonhole. after all, he loves synth wave, electro, afro, kraut, kosmische, disco, italo, miami bass and other proto stuff – a lot of machine music.

thats desire/here we are ep is a 12inch vinyl and digital release by fragile, wolfgang tillmans evolving band project that spans from early recordings in 1986 with bert leßmann to a full band ensemble made up of a group of musicians in new york in 2016. the double a-side ep opens with thats desire, a collaboration with the new york rapper ash b. the song evokes associations with dfa, daf and a queer talking heads. in a spontaneous action ash b. takes over the mic and raps over tillmans heartfelt lyrics, originally written in 1985, combined with a funky bass line by thomas roach. the experiment results in a driving indie-dance sensation about the pleasure and pain of getting lost in ones own desire.

for nearly a decade, raíz and subversive have distributed their vision of dance music on various labels including historia y violencia, electric deluxe, construct reform, droid recordings and their own imprint vrv. three years into the vrv project, the label heads have decided it is time to expand the roster and showcase artists on a similar plane, producers they know can speak to the sound. the chosen interpreters on this release include drumcell & truncate as cell injection, and silent servant. silent servant remixes raíz’s cored 3 the former sandwell district and current jealous god co-conspirator steps up with a stark composition in which melodic arpeggiation builds over industrial drones and echoing drums. the mix of sound reaches a clear peak, then segues into a calm that’s expertly tooled for mixing. drumcell and truncate remix raíz’s cored 2 droid behavior’s best-known producers take up their cell injection collaboration to hollow out raíz’s “cored 2” for a driving roller with eerie pads and a darker sensibility. subversive remixes raíz’s cored 4 subversive breathes another level of funk into the original, with clanging percussion and a new melodic motif.

cosi002 further documents an emerging, ex-germanic theory of perth dance music, typified by tracks built on techno’s stern compositional logic, but poly-functional and cross-disciplinary, wearing the stripes given to them by this most nonpareil of electronic music ecosystems.
the ep has both dance floor heft and mood-focused flexes. “the hunt” is a solarised, laser-sharpened and hi-hat driven garage/big room hybrid. 8-minute “m is for audio” is a workhorse techno slow burner with all the red-eyed melancholy of greats like “acid eiffel” and “deep burnt”, acid burnt and stinging at the mid-range. conversely, “rube” abounds with percussive warmth and ear-dancing patterns, as does “freshness and convenience”, a bastard union of dusty breaks and a hard funk bassline. the ep ends with ambient cyber walkabout “freetown”, peripatetic, matte-toned and pulsing with vital signs.

bit027 is by 2 italians (who do it better as we already know anyways ...) mario masullo & glitches who deliver a pure particle riot on their >pimps ride free< ep. the kids (mario masullo from rome and glitches peepz from naples) without a doubt know what they are doing on this strong as it gets 3 track ep. the message is raw driving techno with an orchestral feel and an overall extra ordinary hypnotizing mood that really breaks away from the norm and will leave the dancer behind thirsty for more. while the a-side is more on the techy driving side of things, combining orchestral sounds for creating a very quite unusual vibe, b1 goes even deeper in hypnotizing your ears and fucking with your brains, real phsychotic dancefloor madness is the key here. b2 then heads back to the melodic side of the game, without forgetting to keep a strong eye on an intense dance-floor aspect here also. melodies so sweet and clean keep flirting with your ears on this one and its just all so well put together, that it manages to keep an minimal feel, eventhough its filled with so many ideas and great sound details, that it simply leaves us behind speechless and answers the question why our new pimps, sure ride for free at the same time ...

vinalog’s new ep on relative delivers raging club music with 4 cuts balancing the uk and berlin sound with a masterful touch. the two mixes of “flashback” on the a side provide raw, nasty house with a punchy groove and luscious vocal samples. b side sees two variations of the same motif: “recall 97” has strong uk bass heavy influences with an acid touch and spanish-mumbling vocals, while “redub 97” is a more stripped down version of the latter able to deliver for the dance floor with a more broken-beat rhythmic pattern.

the last and eighth release in this series opens up with christian wunschs remix of ex machina on the a-side which is all hypnotic bounce, roaring chords, cutting through the irrepressible groove. morbecks remix of ghost town on a2 is an atmospheric but tough interpretation of the original, kicking hard with jackhammered drums, coupled with metal scraping metal sounds and a simplicity that makes it a handy tool to build great tension on the dance-floor. the b-side kicks off with jonas koppss remix of miscellaneous pt. 1 – creatively pairing the heavy rolling 909 drums with a classic four-on-the-floor clap pattern and topped with the eroded drones of the original track. b2 is a re-mastered version of the utterly timeless and epic club hit “1969” by the mastermind christian morgenstern himself.
